Successful presentation of low-emission coffee from Costa Rica at Expo Feria Alemana

5 coffee mills had the opportunity to offer their low-emission coffee at the annual Expo Feria Alemana from August 5 th to 6 th 2017 at the Parque Viva. Between the five mills and an additional coffee blend from several mills from the Los Santos, Valle Central and Valle Occidental area, a total of almost 100 kilograms of coffee was sold during the entire weekend. Coffee mills in final stage of carbon and water footprint measurements

At the end of August, the coffee mills of the NAMA Café will hand in their final carbon and water footprints and begin developing and implementing reduction strategies. During a workshop on August 9 th , the mills´ technicians met at the Doka Estate Convention Center to recapitulate the basic concepts of carbon and water footprint measurement. During a second Design Thinking workshop held in early July, representatives of 8 coffee mills further defined the characteristics of the new packaging currently being designed to promote and sell the low-carbon and sustainable coffee of mills participating in the NAMA Café at an international level. Coffee mills improve marketing skills to promote their coffee abroad

During the months of May and June, the representatives of 10 coffee mills in the NAMA Café participated in a workshop dedicated to improve marketing and sales capacities, preparing presentations for the successful promotion of their coffee abroad. The 34 advanced coffee mills were trained in measuring their water footprints in workshops organized by the Ministry for Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), Ministry for Environment and Energy (MINAE), the National Coffee Institute (ICAFE) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
